Independence Day 2017: Prime Minister Narendra modi today greeted the nation from the ramparts of Red Fort on the occasion of 71st Independence Day of the country. Prime Minister Narendra Modi started his speech by recalling the victims of recent Gorakhpur tragedy in which over 60 children affected by encephalitis allegedly died due to oxygen supply cut. He also recalled the victims of floods in several states of country, saying the country stands 'shoulder to shoulder ' with them.

-> I bow to all those who have sacrificed for the Independence of the nation.
-> Natural calamities have become a big challenge. Good rains contribute to prosperity of the country but climate change creates problems.

: -> This is a special year as it is the 75th anniversary of Quit India Movement, the 100th anniversary of Champaran Satyagraha and 125th anniversary of Ganesh Utsav.
