The award selection committee of India Today Group informed Agriculture Minister Pocharam Srinivas Reddy about the selection and requested him to attend a function in New Delhi on June 23 to collect the award from Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh.
The Minister received the India Today award for “State with rapid Agriculture Growth” in Delhi in the day. Later addressing the gathering, he said the prime intention of Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao in reaching out to farmers in every possible way was to ensure that they would emerge as role models by making agriculture a remunerative activity.
Fast track projects
“Earlier it took 20-30 years for the completion of a single irrigation project, but during the TRS rule project works are on fast track and are being implemented at a record pace”, he said.
On the Rythu Bandhu scheme launched by the State to extend input assistance to farmers, the Agriculture Minister said the entire country was now discussing the scheme and the State government during the first spell had targeted distribution of Rythu Bandhu cheques to 58 lakh farmers and most of them had encashed cheques well before the kharif season and survey reports revealed that farmers were utilizing the investment assistance to the fullest.
