Sridevi is a multilingual star actress in
over 300 titles in all regional cinemas of south including Tamil, telugu,
Kannada and malayalam. Before Bollywood happened, sridevi was
already making waves in Tamil cinema. The legendary K. Balachander is creditedwith
offering her,who started out as a child artist in Tamil cinema her first major
break.

People say that her non-bollywood work
especially in Tamil cinema is ground breaking In nagendrasadha (1983) remake of
Tamil original Moondrampirai, her character has a child like behavior as she
loses her memory due to near fatal car accident. There was a dialogue where she
have to say eucalyptus. For her, eucalyptus is more than a tongue twister. The scene reflects the struggle with her
language, especially Hindi and English.
Throughout her Hindi film career she spoke Hindi with a thick Tamil
accent and audience lapped it up as ‘cute ‘.
Apart from that sridevi is a quick learner
and understood the nuance of her character. She learnt on the spot. Sridevitelugu
years were also equally successful. She acted with Dr.Nageswarraogaru as well
as with his son Nagarjunain the movies Premabhishekam and Govindagovinda. In
1991 she teamed up with Ram Gopal varma for kshanakshanam in which she brought
her Midas touch. Ram gopal Varma has admitted his fanboy love for the actress.
The actress has also appeared in Malayalam
cinema debuting the Mollywoodas an 18yr old in poompata (1971) . She also
worked with the late jayalalitha in such Tamil multistarrers as NamNaadu and
KandhanKarunai.
Now she turned 54yrs today and her film
journey was 50yrs with 300films.
Recently she cameback with English vinglish which once again proved that
there will never be another sridevi. She still has the charm that can give many
leading actresses of film industry a run for their money.
